Black Sheep Family Ministries
BSFM is a not for profit, Christian faith based organization built for the purposes of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and discipling through the teachings of His Holy Bible.
Black Sheep Family Ministries is the result of two people who have been radically saved and transformed by the Lord Jesus Christ prayerfully seeking His will and ways for their lives together as disciples of Christ.
Having lived lives of darkness, trauma, and chaos, we (Shane and Hannah Black) both have a deep understanding of what it means to be hopeless and broken. Growing up in homes with generational curses and cycles passed down from many decades, we learned only how to live the same ways as those who came before us. This caused us to fall into patterns of addiction, abuse, and total disregard for our lives and the lives of others.
We grew up in different parts of the country and different cultures, but the result of not having a strong foundation in the Lord Jesus Christ was the same in both of our lives. We were unable to manage life's trials, tribulations, and tragedies and followed the example of our parents and grandparents. We were led down paths of witchcraft, alcohol and drug use, promiscuity, mental and emotional instability, and violence.
The lives we lived were bringing us quickly towards our deaths. Shane was convicted of criminal activities and often in jail or prison; I (Hannah) was habitually in psych wards, both voluntarily and involuntarily. Crystal meth kept us both on the streets when we weren't contained, and toxic relationships cycled abuse and heartbreak. It is said in recovery programs that this kind of lifestyle only leads to three places: prison, institutions, and death. We were well on our ways to early and tragic demise.
Though we never knew each other from those years, God brought us to the same place, at the same time to find the path to His abundant life and healing: Church on the Street, in the Phoenix Dream Center. It was a place for us to stop running from our pain and learn of the Lord Jesus Christ though His word and Holy Spirit. We learned basic life skills, self-discipline, accountability, and most importantly, we learned the Holy Bible and how to apply scripture to our lives. We learned the love of Father God, the life of Jesus Christ, and the reality of His Holy Spirit within and around us.
Over a two year period, our lives were completely transformed. There were mistakes made, even periods of backsliding into previous dark patterns, but God had His hand on us and delivered us into a life of abiding deeply in His word. The results were undeniable. Eventually, after we had both completed the program, I left the Dream Center to begin work and Shane remained there as staff and leadership. It was at this time we started our relationship that is now our marriage.
Having seen the proof of God's word in our own lives, we take to heart everything the Holy Bible has to say. As a result, we know we are commissioned to share with others what we have received by making disciples of Jesus Christ. We have seen both sides of life; what it is like separated from Him and living according to our worldly desires and what it is like to walk with His Holy Spirit. Our lives are testimonies of how He can bring anyone from death to life.
Black Sheep Family Ministries is our way of worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ with our whole lives by devoting ourselves to set captives free, expose works of darkness, reach those who are lost, hurting, and broken, make disciples of all people, and ultimately glorify God Most High.
